Solterra Senior Living to Open New 60-Unit Addition on March 1
Major Expansion at Lakeside Community Will Provide Important New Resources for Assisted Living and Memory Care Patients Throughout Northeastern Arizona
LAKESIDE—February 5, 2010—A critical need for senior citizens residing throughout northeastern Arizona will be met on March 1 when Solterra Senior Living—located at 5408 Arizona Highway 260 in Lakeside—officially opens its new 60-unit addition that has been under construction for the past 18 months.
The new expansion - which will bring the total number of studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments at Solterra Senior Living to 114—will provide the region's growing senior population with 13 new memory care units and 52 new apartments devoted to assisted living needs. The community's existing 54 apartments will be utilized for independent living residents.
Marjorie Geiger, director of marketing for Solterra Senior Living, said the opening of the new expansion "is an important milestone for the region's rapidly growing senior population. Over the past few years, The White Mountain area has become a magnet for seniors looking for a more comfortable and affordable lifestyle which has created a greater demand for communities such as Solterra. Early indications tell us that there is a great demand for both assisted care and memory care apartments, and we look forward to fulfilling this important need."
Geiger said introductory tours providing prospective residents and their loved ones with a thorough overview of accommodations and programs of the new and expanded community can be made by calling her directly at 928-532-4600.
A grand opening celebration for the new addition is expected to be announced in the next few weeks, Geiger said, but the new apartments are now ready for immediate occupancy beginning March 1.
Like the rest of the nation, the White Mountain area is experiencing a rapid growth in the number of senior citizens afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. The 13 new memory care apartments will provide all of northeastern Arizona with a valuable resource in helping treat Alzheimer's patients, Geiger said. "Unfortunately, our region of the state has very few communities that are adequately equipped to treat those afflicted with this debilitating disease," she said. "Our new addition will provide a much-needed, highly-skilled means to treat and care for these patients."
In conjunction with the opening of the new 60-unit addition, new and current residents of Solterra Senior Living also will be introduced to a totally new culinary program that is receiving national recognition for its innovative approach to health and nutrition for seniors. Designed and implemented by Fuzion Food Group, the new cooking and operating system "is the greenest cooking platform in the entire country," according to Geiger.
"Our new nutrition program leaves 30 percent more moisture in the food for residents, providing them with a much healthier diet," she said. "Solterra Living residents will be able to enjoy fried chicken and French fries that are every bit as crisp as McDonald's but with 50 percent less fat."
Geiger said the new program "will provide our residents with a one-of-a-kind dining experience that enhances their day-to-day living experience."
Originally opened in 2004, Solterra Senior Living is carefully designed to meet the diversified needs of today's rapidly growing "baby boomer" population living in the White Mountains.
Owned and developed by J-Bar Development, a Scottsdale-based company, and managed by CopperSands, Inc. of Phoenix, the community "encourages well being, independence and privacy for White Mountain seniors looking for a high-quality permanent residence," said Steve Jorgenson, managing partner of J-Bar. "All of our personal service plans are designed to meet the needs of our residents and their families."
Designed by Reece Angell Rowe Architects of Phoenix, the new expansion was built by MT Builders Companies under the supervision of construction superintendent Bill Bedwell.
Located near Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center, Solterra draws its residents from Lakeside-Pinetop, Show Low and other communities throughout northeastern Arizona.
